Modes of Counseling
Most clients I see come for individual counseling. However, they often are talking about significant family relationships. A little over 1/3 of the people I see come as a couple or as a family. Your path toward change might have you with family members in some sessions, no sessions, or all your sessions. Services I provide are to persons 13 years of age and older.
Individual counseling
Individual Counseling is having a safe and supportive space preserved for you to work toward your goals in ways that have helped you in the past or to discover new perspectives and approaches. It is also has the benefit of tapping into true self-acceptance and finding motivation that results in change that is not born out of pressure, force, or based primarily on guilt. It is the kind of change that does not come rapidly, but rather change that is naturally evolving and lasting.
Family counseling
With the combined effort of family members working together there can be an exponential shift toward change. Finding compassion and appreciation for one another's experience in small ways can result in cascading changes in the ways we relate to one another. Parenting is a balance between managing our own reactivity, creating healthy limits, connecting, and honing our own skills and our children's skills.
couples counseling
We find partners in many different ways during times when we are different versions of ourselves. Our intimate partnership is ever changing and adjusting how we nurture it is crucial. Dissolving resentment, creating a trusting space, grieving losses, transcending conflict and betrayal, and clarifying our true intentions can bring us back to a close attachment with our partner. This space can offer a way of connection that partners may have never gotten to before in their current or past relationships. Our struggles are obviously about our current intimate relationship but they are also about us and our own past hurts, transitions, and losses. Healing our relationship can be a tool for healing ourselves and bring us more fully to the most genuine version of ourselves.
Should I choose couples, family, or individual
Choosing one best path can be difficult because often we cannot separate the interconnected relationships in our families. When we set up your initial appointment or during a free 10-minute phone consultation I can help you pick a starting point.
Blending services
At times you and I might feel that inviting a family member to a few of your individual sessions might be beneficial. Or as part of family or couples counseling we might decide to meet individually for a few sessions. This is not an uncommon practice. If we determine that different services are necessary on an ongoing basis we will talk about such referrals.
"Insurance"
I am a participating provider for some insurances. There are some variables that might limit my accepting new clients for certain third party payers. I am also regularly adding new contracts resulting in my becoming a provider for new “insurances”. It is always best to call and talk with me if you have questions about using your insurance.

Session and Other Service Fees
What follows are the most common fees for the most typical services I offer. There are other services I will provide and some services I do not provide. For example fees for client workshops and groups vary greatly & I do not perform custody evaluations for fitness for duty assessments.
I am able to help most people I meet in significant ways. At times your needs might warrant a referral. Often times we can determine that need early in the counseling process. An example might be a referral to a medical professional to rule out suspicion of conditions such as a sleep disorder or thyroid problem that might be contributing to symptoms of anxiety or depression.
For new clients or those who are returning a year or more after their last session. With a focus of gathering information, clarification of diagnosis, our getting acquainted, and considering what goals and course of treatment might be best for you.
Follow up session for those who have decided to continue with counseling and who are working toward their goals.
Though short in duration compared to other session lengths it has proved to be an effective session length depending on where you are at in your journey and/or can be an option which can be more affordable.
Phone calls or virtual communications on your behalf, letters, emails, and the completion of forms are not uncommon and may be a part of the services you receive. One page forms, one page letters, and phone consultations under 10-minutes are generally considered part of treatment. Multi page reports and letters and phone or virtual consultations longer than 10 minutes on your behalf may be billed at $45 per 15 minute increment.
In situations where we can establish indigency for you and/or your family and my benevolent care funds are able to support sliding my fee I will do so. This amount would be based on a standardized calculation in order to be equitable. Sliding fees are generally for a discrete period of time and are for those who have no mental health coverage through "insurance".
These services are generally provided at your location. Cost is based on such variables and distance from Carlisle, topic, size of group being trained, number of days over which training occurs, time(s) of day, day(s) of the week, dates, and length of session(s).
